You pose the most important question a nation as well as an individual must wrestle with :"What more could we achieve if we weren’t held back by fear?" Thank you, Avi, for this thoughtful and thought-provoking essay.
Great, great article. As a European citizen, I admire Israel's determination to do what needs to be done, and I regret that most people in the West don't see that Israel is doing our dirty work.
Congrats from Chile on this very insightful piece, which I believe contains a helpful balance between factual information and thoughtful views.
On a more personal note, my gratitude to the people and the State of Israel, which I regard as beacons of Western values, including liberal democracy. We should all be grateful that Israel has the stamina and determination to do the right thing against ferociously anti-Western, totalitarian and theocratic regimes looming over world peace.
Loved this article and reminds me of what Roosevelt said after 12.7.41.
Military miracle after miracle continue to occur when Israel fights its enemies. Warsaw ghetto uprising was a preview of what's possible when fear is overcome.
This essay is thoughtful and thought-provoking. The question you pose to Israelis (and all Jews) :What more could we achieve if we weren’t held back by fear?" is one I ask myself every day. Thank you for reminding us how fear is paralyzing and what we're capable of achieving, as an individual and as a nation by going beyond fear and having faith.
