Yes, you can be proIsrael and criticize the Netanyahu government. But you can also suffer from Bibi Derangement Syndrome.

Somehow some rando democrat in the middle of nowhere decides he knows better than the IDF and the Israeli war cabinet what Israel needs to do and somehow this makes him proIsrael, only proves that you are living in fairytale land. Those making the decisions about how to deal with Hamas in Gaza are the parents whose children are the ones who will be going into battle. Not you and not your phony baloney democrat fair-weather friends. Only around 30% of democrats support Israel. I still remember when they booed Jerusalem as Israel's capital. It has only gone downhill from there. The DNC is infected with Jew-haters masquerading as "pro-palestine." Fix your party instead of looking to scapegoat Israel.

I havent forgotten that the majority of Senate democrats voted to end arms sales to Israel in the middle of an existential war for her survival. (It's only been a few weeks.) You know who also wants to end arms sales to Israel? David Duke and the American Nazi Party. Word to the DNC, when you are on the same side of an issue as a nazi you better rethink your life choices.

Last sentence applies to pro-Israel folks too, right? There's no shortage of fascists and antisemites who support Israel.

"The subtext of Trump’s attacks, like Orban’s, is that Jews are admirable when building their own ethnostate but troublesome when disrupting white Christian ones. Neo-Nazis say this openly. The white nationalist leader Richard Spencer, who blames American Jews for the fact that “white people are being dispossessed from this country,” has called Israel “the most important and perhaps most revolutionary ethnostate, the one that I turn to for guidance.” Anders Breivik, who murdered 78 people in Norway in 2011, wrote in his manifesto that “Jews that support multiculturalism today are as much of a threat to Israel and Zionism (Israeli nationalism) as they are to us.”"

Halie, thank you for writing this. Recently an acquaintance of mine questioned my Judaism and being a Democrat. I didn't know what to say to this person. I chose to remain quiet and not start a fight. However, after reading your article, I posted it to my Facebook newsfeed and hope that this person will now understand.

Yeah, but sorry. I don’t believe that this post is simply about criticizing Netanyahu but still being Pro-Israel. Not buying it at all. What you are trying to do is drive a wedge amongst pro-Israel diaspora Jews and get us to support the DEMS who have essentially declared themselves anti-Israel. Please stop this and just go join J Street or JVP.

Why are Jews ok with war crimes, the murder or journalists, and mass starvation by the world's only “Jewish State”?

Not to mention the many Israeli and non Israeli observers noting that this war has never been about Hamas or the Hostages, but ethnic cleansing.

Begging the question is still a logical fallacy. The rules of logic haven’t changed for the upside down year 2025. Give them some consideration the next time you make an argument. And…maybe pretend like you’re a lawyer in a court & you’re not allowed to LIE.

Sorry. The Democrats lost me and they won't get me back until they excise the cancer of anti-Jewish hatred from the party. At this point, they are feeding the cancer and allowing it to grow. I don't trust any of them when they say they are "just criticizing Bibi". No matter who governed Israel right now, I suspect the Dems would demonize him or her.

Even a far left Israeli leader would have had no choice but to take care of Hamas & the rest. I don’t know if that would have meant that Democratic support wouldn’t have cratered.

I agree with Ms. Sofer that Trump has politicized Israel, but with their knee-jerk opposition to anything Trump supports, Democrats have helped turn abandonment & demonization of Israel into a game that feels very dangerous to this US Jew.
